Leafcutter John

Leafcutter John is the artistic name of British musician John Burton. He studied at the Norwich School of Art in Fine Art (1996-1998), moved then to London and following a year as a performance artist concentrated entirely on his musical work. This rapidly attracted the interest of Mike Paradinas, owner of the independent electronic label, Planet Mu. Paradinas encouraged Burton to further develop his electro-acoustic folk hybrid style and his first album “Concourse EEP” appeared in 2000, followed by “The Housebound Spirit”. Burton has appeared as “Leafcutter John” at festivals right across Europe, North Africa and Australia. In 2003 he headed up the dis.lab event, curated by no.signal in Rome. Appearances followed at Berlin’s club transmediale festival, Paris Confluences and others in Belgium, France, Spain, Manchester, Norwich and a live streaming event between New York City and London. Burton is also a member of the multi-award winning band Polar Bear and a well-versed remixer, for DJ Burst, Melt Yourself Down, Mu-ziq/Speedy J, Electric Company, Badly Drawn Boy, Capitol K and others.
